Getting An Interview

Securing an interview for the job that you want isn’t as difficult as it may first seem. Sometimes you can secure an interview by simply making a phone call. There are many ways that people go about trying to get an interview. The methods of achieving one vary by company. It is best to know what the company’s application process is before taking your first step.

Generally, when a company is recruiting they post an ad in a local and \ or national newspaper or nowadays via an online job web site. Details of how to apply are usually included in the ad. You don’t want to email your CV to a company that has requested a hand written covering letter. You don’t want to hand deliver your CV to a company that has requested email contact in the first instance. Ignoring their initial contacting requirements will guarantee that you will not get an interview because you have already proven that you cannot follow simple instructions.

On occasions you may be lucky enough to get a ‘tip off’ from someone before a vacancy has been advertised. In this case it may be a good idea to ask the person to give the employer your CV and cover letter. This is only possible if the person actually works for the company, if not call about the position yourself and ask what the application procedure is.
